KITCHEN FLOORS

Comercial kitchen floors have special requirements.  Because of their intended use they must be easily cleanable, resistant to cooking oils, non-slip, and anti-microbial.  Health Inspectors welcome the installation of seamless protective floor coating systems in kitchens.

THE PROJECT - Kitchen floor update - Salem, MA

Cracked, Contaminated Quarry Tile in Commercial Kitchen

THE PROBLEM

An existing kitchen was being upgraded to include new flooring to replace old quarry tile which had become loose, cracked and had excessive contamination in and under grout lines.

THE SOLUTION

The existing floor was removed by means of jackhammers and grinding. The remaining concrete was shotblasted to remove residual contamination. Many holes and cracks in the slab were exposed. All defects were repaired with epoxy grouting materials. A quartz broadcast urethane mortar flooring system, includng a 4" integral cove base, was installed and top coated with a novolac epoxy coating. The resulting floor was non-slip, antimicrobial and easily cleanable.
